I've had my little guinea pig Oliver for about 3 years now and over these years I've become a true pig mom. I feed him his veggies, give him baths, trim his nails, take him on outdoor adventures and cuddle him. I have made posts upon posts about him, but I don't think I've shared the full story as to how he became part of the family. I think one of our first posts I gave a brief story of how I adopted him, but today I'm going to take a trip down memory lane and share the full story.
Our saga begins as a normal day for me, I had to go take a quick run to Petco to buy bird food for my two Parakeets. And as any normal person would do, I had to go look at the cats before I would buy food for my pets. Next to the cats I saw a cage sitting on a fold out table, curious as to what it was I went over to take a look. Inside the cage was a little guinea pig, hiding under a hut with wide eyes and a scared look. Next to the cage was a piece of paper that explained the little pig was returned to Petco and was looking for a new home. I felt my heart break knowing he was returned, I watched him for some time and decided I needed to get home to my birds. Driving home all I could think about was his scared look and how scared he must be to have been returned.
I went home and was doing whatever I did back then, and this pig was still on my mind. My parents had been very clear that I wasn't allowed to adopt anymore pets, as I had so many. I made the decision that I had to just ask my parents, even if they said no. As I was making the pitch as to why we should adopt him, I said "He just a little orphan Ollie". And just like that, my parents agreed to let me adopt him. I hopped into my car and drove to Petco, adopted the little guy, and never looked back.
He's my tiny sidekick and best furry friend.
