Pellet food provides guinea pigs with vitamin C, which they cannot produce on their own, so it’s very important that pellet food is in their diet. While pellet food is beneficial to the pigs’ diet it can also lead to weight gain in pigs; therefore, pellet food must be in controlled portions.
Feeding: 1/4 cup once a day
Hay helps pigs’ digestive system moving and helps prevent their teeth from over growing (which causes problems of its own).
Feeding: Available at all times
Fresh Fruits & Vegetables
Fresh fruits and veggies provide benefits of their own to pigs’ diets. Feeding them to pigs can help create a more well-rounded diet for pigs!
Feeding: Mixture of two twice a day (breakfast and dinner)
Feeding may not be the most exciting thing but it is important (duh!) I was thinking of starting a mini series "Guinea Pig 101" and covering the basics, and not so basic, things that factor into guinea pig care. Let me know if you guys would be intertsed in this series and comment any guinea pig care topics you'd like for me to cover!
