Instrumental music is gaining a lot of popularity because people have finally realized that there is a profound and unmatched beauty in instrumental music, and that classical music is in fact not boring and lame, but pretty darn interesting.
I love listening to instrumental music whenever I need to conjure up some deep thoughts. After a stressful day, when I'm feeling sad, or when I need an extra boost of inspiration to get me going, I always turn to instrumental music. As a singer, I love music with lyrics, because I relate to the words and I love to be able to sing them. But there are certain times in life when the only music that will do is the music without words.
Young and Beautiful Jazz Version
The Great Gatsby is one of my favorite books and movies, and this song is on the movie's soundtrack. The original version of Young and Beautiful gives me goosebumps, and I love Lana del Rey and her beautiful, haunting voice. This version puts a different spin on the song, turning it into a jazzy, happy number. I always smile when I listen to this song, and with this song in the background no dream is too big and no goal is unreachable. Life is good and sunny and beautiful anytime I listen to this song. The Big Ship
This song was featured in my favorite movie of all time, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl. It makes me feel very small, and like the whole universe is rushing up to meet me. The way it rises and falls and sends shivers down my spine just serve to remind me of my ultimate purpose on this earth. It makes me feel human, makes me feel rooted in the waves of the universe. It makes me feel like I belong on this planet and in this place. It inspires deep thoughts like the ones I'm sharing with you now. Find it here, and listen to it while stargazing for an extra special experience.
Clair De Lune
Don't shy away from this one just because its a classic piano piece. It was featured in Twilight as well as the anime Your Lie in April, and for an entire week this summer it was the only song I listened to. I always seem to cry whenever I listen to this song because there's something so undeniably sad about it. But the song itself is also very happy, so anytime I cry I never feel sad, but I feel refreshed and renewed. This song will tug at your heartstrings in a way that inspires you to be a better person. I was listening to this song when I finally forgave a girl I had been holding a grudge against for almost a year. It was this song that made me realize the life I wanted to live in the future. You just can't loose when this song is playing. Its the soundtrack to an epic boss battle, the song that plays when you have an showdown with your nemesis, the song going through your head as you score perfectly on your SAT, the battle hymn as you score the point that wins your team state, the marching tune as you strut through the halls on your final day of high school. It is a song that breeds champions. A song that gets my blood flowing and my legs pumping and my mind inspired to achieve nothing but success. Its also a song from my marching band show this year, which makes it extra funny and inspiring. Find the piano version here.
There's a quote that says, 'When words fail, music speaks.' This quote rings true with these songs. No other songs have been able to control my emotions, my outlook on life, and my overall mood and well being than these four. Its a wild roller coaster to have these songs lined up on a playlist, because you get to experience every human emotion over the course of thirty minutes, an experience that is both beautiful and overwhelming. So anytime you're feeling dull, or down in the dumps, consider these songs, or find your own instrumental songs that make you feel alive.
