Music shapes the way we think and feel and influences us all in ways we can't always describe. I used to be a firm believer that music didn't have the power to make people feel all these things and more, and I can't believe I once used to think this way. Not to sound all that dramatic, but that was before I heard the album. The album that changed my life.
THE SOUND I never really know how to describe my music taste, it's kind of a mixture of most everything. But Hozier's sound reminds me of folk music but a twist of alternative. Even though I can't describe the sound, I think his sound is by far my favorite. (Side note: When you play In a Week through speakers you can hear every beat, background harmony and everything else that makes music beautiful. I would 10/10 recommend hearing if you're in the mood for something life changing)
THE LYRICS In some songs the lyrics confuse me deeply but I can still relate to them in a way and I still feel it in my soul. I feel like his songs are really personal to himself and so the lyrics may seem weird to people because they don't know the meaning behind them. (Work Song is a beautiful Hozier classic and look at how cute this art is!)
UNPLUGGED AND LIVE As if his album isn't the most wonderful thing you've ever heard, Hozier has so many unplugged and live versions of his song and they seriously send chills down my back and into my soul. I went through a journey listening to his album for the first time and then I went through another one when I heard his music unplugged for the first time, all around just a journey in itself.
My favorite song is Someone New. To me this song is about falling in love with random strangers that reminds you, even in the slightest, of the person that you love but you are no longer with. It's like you look for the person you love in everyone you meet. It's hard to explain but I think in a twisted kind of way that it's kind of romantic. Also the music video saved my life and made me feel some kind of way.
This blog post was a little bit of a struggle to create because I wanted to do this album justice and I hope I did just that. Do you guys have an album that changed your life? If so, drop them in the comments so I can rediscover life through music.
