This upcoming holiday break I intend to do nothing but play the sims 3 and binge watch all the period dramas I put on my list on Netflix. For those of you planning on doing the same I have a helpful list of my top 3 movies (that may or may not be available on Netflix) for you to enjoy.
Me and Earl and the Dying Girl
It's a sad yet cynical movie about cancer. The way it's filmed is what really wins me over because everything is artsy and beautiful looking and the characters blend in perfectly with their strange and colorful background. It's also a very interesting take on the classic cancer trope, and nothing at all like The Fault in Our Stars. There is no sappiness and no deep meaning or beautiful moral, just three kids messing around and dying of cancer.
Whisper of the Heart
This is a classic studio ghibli film that is normal enough for non-anime fans to enjoy and yet still contains that classic fantasy element that is present in every ghibli film. It's one of the lesser known movies and it follows the simple yet heartwarming story of a boy and girl that fall in love and yet don't really fall in love. It's a very soothing story with not alot of anxiety or excitement involved. It's a nice film to unwind to after the stress of finals.
Buckle up for a two hour journey that involves nothing but singing and 2 minute fight scenes. Les Mis is a classic and has been my favorite movie for a super long time. If you've never seen it you should, it's a dramatic tale about France in the complicated years between revolutions and follows the tangled stories of all the characters. All the actors are great, the storyline is interesting, the singing is wonderful, and the characters are well developed. All around a quality film.
Wherever this holiday season is taking you I hope you stay safe and comfortable and have a good time. Don't let the holidays stress you out and make sure to make time to do what you love and take a nap. And if you have some downtime find a way to get involved in the fight against the repeal of net neutrality! This beloved blog will be affected by it, so be sure to make your voice heard!
