Carrot and I started this blog back in 2017 in my bedroom while dying my hair with box dye. Our vision was to share our passions and creations with the hope of finding other like-minded girls. Back then we didn't really have an idea as to what being a blogger in the age of social media truly meant.
We started off with our blog, and that's it. It took us a while before we got into using social media to promote our blog and interact with other people. We started our Instagram in 2018 unsure of what blogging on Instagram actually meant. In the short time of a year we are just now starting to learn what Instagram blogging really entails.
Today I wanted to share the struggles that Carrot and I face being an "influencer" on social media, specifically Instagram. Even being a very small brand, we still feel the pressure of having the most perfect feed featuring Vogue-style images.
So, enjoy this list of Carrot and I's struggles with being an "influencer".
1. POSTING PERFECT PICTURES
The art of taking a good Instagram picture is probably the thing we struggle most with. We are definitely not models and don't have a personal photographer following us around on the daily. Self timers are great but can only go so far in capturing the perfect picture to post. (Taking any and all suggestions on taking better Instagram pics)
2. CREATING AN AESTHETIC
About once a week Carrot and I sit down and stress over how our Instagram doesn't have a nice aesthetic. This is a problems because most popular blogs have the nice vibe that makes everything feel uniform and pretty. Posting on the same account can sometimes cause a clash of vibes, which makes our Instagram feel choppy and messy. We finally found a filter we like and are working on upping our picture taking to create a more uniform theme.
3. INSTAGRAM BLOGGING IS A SEPARATE BLOG FROM OUR WEBSITE
The Instagram blogging community is one in it's own. People are able to make careers juts off an Instagram without having a blog alongside it. This creates a divide of sorts, meaning we feel like our Instagram is a separate blog from own website. Establishing a brand on two different platforms has definitely been a big problem for us, but we are always looking at how to combine the two to work together.
4. ENGAGING WITH READERS FROM THE BLOG AND NOT OTHER BLOGGERS
A majority of our followers and people who interact with our page is normally other small bloggers and not our readers. While we have discovered new and amazing content creators, we feel like we aren't connecting with the people who read our blog. We started our Instagram to connect more with you guys and we feel lonely without you guys!
5. POSTING DAILY CONTENT THAT REPRESENTS OUR BAND
When researching how to grow your Instagram most pages tell you to post daily content that makes you happy and represents your brand. Going along the lines of posting a perfect picture, the stuff that gets the most likes on Instagram are the pictures that are curated to show a life of luxury and postable moments. Daily content is hard to push out when Instagram is so competitive.
Complaining aside, Carrot and I LOVE to make content and nothing will change that. We are constantly trying to up our Instagram game, it might take some time before we get it right but we are trying!
Please tell me that other people feel the same way...
