As an incoming senior my Mom has been pestering me non-stop to apply for scholarships. One scholarship I applied for required me to submit a piece of poetry, and while I didn't win the scholarship my poem was chosen to be published in a collection of poetry that will be coming out towards the end of this year. I'm sharing that poem with you today, and I hope you enjoy it!
I see the world now with unspoiled eyes
From behind the lenses
Of dusted and dated
They make the world glossy, incandescent and pure
They make the greens vibrant and jovial
They make the grey clouds lustrous and blooming
They bring me and my eyes back to a time of untapped purity
A time of joy and a summer of love
The world bursts into a soft yellow behind the lenses
And all the noise and the shouts and the blood and the hatred
Is made to be delicate and mellow
And the world is brushed with a gentle hand of honey
I wish to tie those glasses to my face
To live and breathe and exist inside their rays of wholesome honey light
I want my blood to run through them and my air to brush against them
I want my mind and my soul and all my worth to exist in the space
Those yellow glasses create
Because what harm can be done unto me
With the world all tinted yellow?
