I was tasked with writing poetry this week, and I was about to concoct some new original poetry for you all when I remembered that I had an entire google doc filled with poetry that I've been writing over the years, appropriately titled 'And Here We Are'. So here I am, sharing this poetry with you.
The Sun came Through the Windshield
I see the beauty in this world
In its green trees
And smoke filled mountains
And the dusty blue sky.
I see it in the rolling clouds
And the splattering rain
And the birds that fly and sing.
I see it everywhere quite frankly,
But never have I seen the beauty of the world
Than in your eyes today.
The last time I knew you
You smelled of flowers
And the perfume that comes in clear
Tinted with blue and pink,
And the feelings of roses
And now that I see you again
Its like I hardly know you.
I thought I’d recognize you
But you smell of sandalwood
And of dark places
And of expensive glass bottles
That shatter when you drop them.
You smell of change
And I think I’ve lost you.
The Clash of the Elements
And I am wind and you were dust, rock, mud.
Unmoving and void
Plain and draining
You stopped my spirit and kept me locked up
And I am not looking to be stopped
I am looking to be pushed along by a crosswind
Thrown into a tornado
I am looking to fuel a forest fire
Stir a tsunami
Mountains are not something I care to deal with
I am looking for my crosswind.
I got a fortune that told me
‘Next Summer you will dance to a different beat’
And I clutched it in my fingers
Holding onto it as if it were going to fly away
And I hoped and prayed with all my heart
That it was telling the truth
Thoughts on Rain
I love the sound of rain
And of the gentle pattering of it on the green leaves of trees.
I love the puddles it forms
That I splash my way through.
I love the way it curls my hair
And wets my cheeks.
I love the drizzle,
I love the violent storm,
I love the gentle droplets that grow into splattering sheets.
I love the dark ominous clouds
That cancel sports practices
And block out the sun.
I love standing in the midst of the rain
In my pilled grey sweatshirt
My hair pulled back into a bun
And my face shining towards the mountains.
